Nickelodeon is a TV channel in Canada that shows programs for kids and young teens. It's based on the popular American Nickelodeon network. A company called Corus Entertainment owns and runs it in Canada. They have a special agreement with ViacomCBS, which owns the original Nickelodeon.
Just like other Nickelodeon channels around the world, this one shows cartoons and live-action shows for kids and teens. Before this channel started, other Canadian channels like YTV and Treehouse TV were the main places to watch Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. shows. Even now, YTV and Treehouse TV often show new episodes from the U.S. networks first. This is because they are available to more homes across Canada.
Nickelodeon Canada is one of two channels owned by Corus that are connected to ViacomCBS. The other channel is CMT, which is owned by both companies.
What's on Nickelodeon?
Nickelodeon Canada mainly shows programs that have already aired on the American Nickelodeon channel. Many of the newest Nickelodeon shows are still shown on YTV in Canada first.
The channel plays a mix of both new and older TV series. During the daytime, it has a special block of shows for younger children called Nick Jr.. These shows do not have commercials. To follow Canadian rules about TV content, the channel also airs shows made in Canada from Corus's own collection of programs. Since February 2018, Nickelodeon Canada also started showing movies and special TV events.
