Nico Boje (born 20 March 1973) is a former cricket player from South Africa. He played in many important matches for his country. These included 43 Test matches, 115 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and one Twenty20 International (T20I).

Nicky Boje was a key player in the South Africa team that won the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy. He also played for the Africa XI cricket team in the 2005 Afro-Asia Cup. He was the very first player to represent South Africa in a Twenty20 International match.

Boje went to Grey College in Bloemfontein. Today, he works as a coach for the Knights cricket team in the Free State province of South Africa. His brother, Eduard Boje, also played professional cricket.

Playing Cricket for Clubs

Time with Northamptonshire

Nicky Boje joined an English cricket team called Northamptonshire in 2007. He played for them for the last few weeks of that season. A little later, he decided to join a different cricket league called the Indian Cricket League.

In 2008, the team's captain, David Sales, stepped down. Nicky Boje then took over as the new captain for Northamptonshire. During that season, he achieved his highest ever score in a First-class cricket match, scoring 226 runs without being out. He signed a new contract in 2009 to lead the club through the 2010 season.

Playing Cricket for South Africa

Nicky Boje started his international cricket career in 1995. His first match was against Zimbabwe. Even though he sometimes missed games because of injuries, he became South Africa's main spin bowler.

Boje was known as an all-rounder, meaning he was good at both batting and bowling. Because South Africa had many all-rounders, he often batted lower down the order, usually at number eight or nine. However, he had a good batting average for a player in that position.

Even though he never scored a century (100 runs) in a Test match, he did score two centuries in One Day International matches. These centuries happened against New Zealand in the 2000–01 season. In that same six-match ODI series, he scored a total of 355 runs, which was a record for that type of series.

In December 2006, Nicky Boje announced that he was retiring from international cricket. He finished his career with exactly 100 Test wickets. His final wicket was Mahela Jayawardene in his last Test match, which brought him to that special milestone.
