Nico Boje (born 20 March 1973) is a former South African cricket player. He played in 43 Test matches, 115 One Day Internationals, and one Twenty20 International for his country. Nicky, as he is known, was a key player in the South Africa team that won the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy. This was the only major international trophy the country has won in cricket so far.

Nicky Boje was also part of the Africa XI cricket team for the 2005 Afro-Asia Cup. He holds a special record as the very first player to represent South Africa in a Twenty20 International match. He went to Grey College in Bloemfontein. Today, he coaches the Knights cricket team in the Free State, South Africa. His brother, Eduard Boje, also played first-class cricket.

Playing for Clubs

Northamptonshire Cricket Club

Nicky Boje joined the English cricket team Northamptonshire in 2007. He quickly became an important player for them. In 2008, he took over as the captain of the team. During his time as captain, he achieved his highest ever score in First-class cricket, making 226 runs not out. He continued to lead the club until the end of the 2010 season.

Playing for South Africa

Nicky Boje started his international career in 1995, playing against Zimbabwe. Even though he sometimes missed games due to injuries, he became South Africa's main spin bowler. As an All-rounder, he was good at both batting and bowling. He usually batted lower down the order, but he still scored well.

He never scored a century (100 runs) in Test matches. However, he did score two centuries in One Day International (ODI) matches against New Zealand in the 2000-2001 season. In that same six-match ODI series, he scored a lot of runs, showing how strong he was with the bat.

In December 2006, Nicky Boje decided to retire from international cricket. He ended his career having taken exactly 100 wickets in Test matches. His final Test wicket was Mahela Jayawardene, which was a great way to reach his milestone.
