Nicola Berti (born 14 April 1967) is a former Italian footballer. He played as a midfielder for many years. Berti's career lasted for almost two decades. He played for several clubs, especially Inter Milan. There, he became a very important player. He helped Inter Milan win a Serie A title and three UEFA Cups. After playing in Italy, he also played in England, Spain, and Australia. He played for Tottenham, Alavés, and Northern Spirit.
Berti was a strong, energetic, and hard-working player. He was also a key player for the Italy national football team in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He helped Italy reach the final of the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He also finished in third place at the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Club Football Journey
Nicola Berti was born in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy. He started his football career at age 17 with Parma. In his first season, the club won the Serie C1 championship. This helped them move up to Serie B, a higher league.
After three seasons with Fiorentina, Inter Milan signed him in 1988. They paid about £3.6 million for him. In his first year at Inter, Berti played very well with Lothar Matthäus. They helped their team win the Serie A title in 1989. Inter Milan set a record for points that season. Berti scored seven goals from midfield that year.
While at Inter, Berti also won the 1989 Supercoppa Italiana. He helped the team win the UEFA Cup three times. He even scored goals in the 1991 UEFA Cup final and the 1994 UEFA Cup final. He also reached another UEFA Cup final in 1997.

Playing for Italy
Berti first played for Italy's under-21 team. He played in the 1986 and 1988 European Under-21 Championships. He reached the final in 1986.
He made his first appearance for the senior Italy team in 1988. This was in a game against Norway. He scored his first goal for Italy in a friendly match against Scotland. Italy won that game 2–0.
Berti was part of the Italy squad for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He played in four matches, including the game for third place against England. Italy won that game 2–1. At the 1994 World Cup, Berti was an even more important player. He played in every match, all the way to the final against Brazil. Brazil won the final. In the quarter-finals against Spain, Berti started the play that led to Roberto Baggio's winning goal. He played 39 games for Italy between 1988 and 1995, scoring three goals.
