Nicole Eisenman (born 1965) is a famous American artist. She was born in France. She is well-known for her amazing oil paintings and sculptures. Nicole Eisenman has won several important awards. These include the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1996 and the Carnegie Prize in 2013. She also received a special MacArthur Fellowship award in 2015. This award recognized her skill in bringing back the importance of showing human figures in art. Her work has been featured in the Whitney Biennial three times. Today, Eisenman lives in Brooklyn, New York.

About Nicole Eisenman

Nicole Eisenman was born in 1965 in Verdun, France. Her father was working there as an army psychiatrist. Her family has German-Jewish roots. Her great-grandmother, Esther Hamerman, was also a painter from Poland.

In 1970, Nicole's family moved from France to Scarsdale, New York. She grew up there. Later, she went to the Rhode Island School of Design. She earned her degree in painting in 1987. After finishing college, she moved to New York City. From 2003 to 2009, Eisenman also taught art at Bard College.

Her Art and Style

Eisenman's oil paintings often show people and scenes in a funny or exaggerated way. She likes to use humor and caricature in her art. While she is famous for her paintings, she also creates many other types of art. These include large art installations, detailed drawings, and different kinds of prints. She makes etchings, lithographs, monotypes, and woodcuts.

Nicole Eisenman also creates sculptures. She co-founded a special art group called Ridykeulous with another artist, A.L. Steiner. Her artwork was part of the "Women Painting Women" show in 2022. This exhibition was held at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

Amazing Sculptures

Nicole Eisenman creates unique and imaginative sculptures. Her sculptures have been shown in major art events around the world. These include the 58th Venice Biennale and the 2017 Skulptur Projekte Münster. Her sculptures were also featured in the 2019 Whitney Biennial.

One of her notable sculptures is Sketch for a Fountain. She started working on this bronze piece in 2012. The Nasher Sculpture Center bought this artwork in 2019. It was an important addition to their collection.
