Nikolai Vladimirovich Levichev (Russian: Николай Владимирович Левичев; born May 28, 1953) is a Russian politician. He was once the leader of a political party called A Just Russia. He also served as a deputy in the State Duma, which is like a parliament. Since February 2016, he has been a member of the Central Election Commission of Russia. This group helps manage elections in Russia.

Early Life and School
Nikolai Levichev was born on May 28, 1953. His hometown was Pushkin, which is near Saint Petersburg in Russia. His father was a professor who taught about radio engineering. His mother was a mathematician who worked as an artist for a publishing company. His grandfather was also a scholar.
Nikolai went to high school in Pushkin. He was in the same class as Sergei Mironov, who later became a political leader too. Nikolai was very good at math and won competitions. For his last two years of high school, he attended a special school for physics and math in Leningrad. He finished there in 1970.
After high school, he studied physics at Leningrad State University. He worked in science for a while before getting into politics. He studied with Vladimir Churov, who later led the Central Election Commission.
In 1991, Nikolai worked with trade unions. He also studied at a special academy. He was part of the Communist Party before it was no longer allowed in August 1991. Later, he founded a company called The-C. From 1991 to 2002, he was the general director of a publishing house with the same name.
Business Ventures
In April 1999, Nikolai Levichev helped start an investment company. It was called Investment Company AyBiEych (IBH). He worked with other people and companies to create it.
Political Journey
Nikolai Levichev became active in politics in the early 2000s. He helped create the political party A Just Russia in 2006. This party aimed to show different ideas in politics.
In April 2011, he became the leader of the party. He took over from Sergey Mironov. While he was leader, the party supported social policies. They also generally agreed with President Vladimir Putin. Nikolai stepped down as leader in 2013. Sergey Mironov then became the party leader again. However, Nikolai continued to work as a deputy in the State Duma.
Work in the Election Commission
On February 24, 2016, Nikolai Levichev joined the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. This commission helps organize and oversee elections. His role was seen as a way to help manage the election process. It also aimed to show that the system was fair. He followed Vladimir Churov in this role.
Political Ideas
Nikolai Levichev believes in government-led economic and social plans. He also strongly supports the idea of national sovereignty. This means a country should be able to govern itself without outside interference.
International Sanctions
Because of his support for Russia's actions in Ukraine, some countries have placed sanctions on Nikolai Levichev. Sanctions are like penalties.
The European Union put sanctions on him in June 2022. This meant his assets (like money or property) were frozen. He was also not allowed to travel to EU countries. These measures were expanded in October 2022. This happened after more areas of Ukraine were annexed.
In January 2023, Japan also placed sanctions on Nikolai Levichev. The United Kingdom added him to its Russia sanctions list in March 2023.
