Nikolai Lugansky (born April 26, 1972) is a very talented Russian pianist. He plays music with many famous orchestras and conductors around the world. He also makes recordings for different music companies. In 2019, his daughter, Anna Luganskaya, showed great courage by protesting for press freedom at a special event.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Nikolai Lugansky was born in Moscow, Russia. His parents were research scientists. He showed amazing musical talent from a very young age. When he was just five years old, he could play a Beethoven piano sonata just by listening to it, even before he learned to read music notes!
He studied piano at two famous schools in Moscow: the Moscow Central Music School and the Moscow Conservatory. He learned from excellent teachers like Tatiana Kestner, Tatiana Nikolayeva, and Sergei Dorensky.
A Career in Classical Music
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Nikolai Lugansky won many awards at piano competitions. One of his biggest achievements was winning the silver medal at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1994. This competition is one of the most important in the world for classical musicians.
Around this time, he also started making music recordings. He has recorded for many well-known labels, including Warner Classics and Harmonia Mundi. In 2018, he signed a special contract with Harmonia Mundi to record more of his music.
Nikolai Lugansky has performed with many other famous musicians, like Vadim Repin and Joshua Bell. He has also worked with top conductors from around the globe. Besides performing and recording, he shares his knowledge by teaching piano at the Moscow Conservatory.
Personal Life and Family
Nikolai Lugansky lives in Moscow with his wife and their three children. His daughter, Anna Luganskaya, is a journalist. In 2019, she made headlines for a brave act. At an awards ceremony where her father was present, she wore a shirt that supported another journalist. This was seen as a strong statement for press freedom in Russia and got a lot of attention both in Russia and internationally.
