Nilwood is in Macoupin County, Illinois. A main road, Illinois Route 4, goes through the northern part of the town. This road can take you about 11 miles (18 km) southwest to Carlinville. Carlinville is the "county seat," which means it's where the main government offices for Macoupin County are located. If you go northeast on Route 4 for about 4 miles (6 km), you'll reach Girard.
