The Ninilchik River (called Niqnalchintnu by the Dena'ina people) is a stream in Alaska. It is about 21 miles (34 km) long. This river is located on the Kenai Peninsula. It is a popular spot for fishing and other outdoor activities.

Where is the Ninilchik River Located?

The Ninilchik River starts in the western part of the Kenai Peninsula. It flows south, running alongside the coast. Then, it makes a sharp turn to the west near the town of Ninilchik.

How the River Flows

A road called Ninilchik Road follows the lower part of the river. It runs along the left side of the river. This road goes almost all the way to where it meets the Sterling Highway.

When the river reaches Ninilchik, it flows under the Sterling Highway. After that, it goes through the Ninilchik State Recreation Area. Finally, the river empties into Cook Inlet.
