How the Show Was Made
This section shares some cool facts about how Tournament of Elements was created.
Inspiration for the Story
The writers, Dan and Kevin Hageman, said they got ideas for this season from an old martial arts movie called Enter the Dragon. Even a character named Clouse was inspired by the movie's director, Robert Clouse!
Animation and Direction
The amazing animation for this season was done in Denmark by a company called Wil Film ApS. Many talented directors helped bring the episodes to life, including Jens Møller and Peter Hausner.
The Story of the Tournament
After Zane goes missing, the ninja team feels lost. But Lloyd works hard to bring them back together. They meet at Chen's Noodle House and get a surprise invitation to a tournament. They learn that Zane is alive! The ninja, along with Garmadon, join other Elemental Masters on a ferry to Master Chen's secret island.
Arriving at Chen's Island
On the island, Zane is being held captive. He's now a cool Titanium Ninja! Kai meets Skylor, the Master of Amber, and tries to impress her. The tournament begins, and contestants must win Jade Blades to stay in the game. Losers fall through trap doors! The ninja soon find a secret tunnel and discover Chen's hidden army.
Secrets and Betrayals
Jay and Cole are forced to fight each other, but Cole lets Jay win, finally ending their rivalry over Nya. Cole is sent to Chen's Noodle Factory, but he plans to escape. The ninja start to earn the trust of the other Elemental Masters. Chen tries to trick everyone by saying the winner gets his Staff of Elements, but he's secretly stealing their powers with it!
Nya and Dareth sneak onto the island. Nya disguises herself as a Kabuki. Meanwhile, Cole finds Zane and helps him escape. The ninja realize one of the Elemental Masters is a spy for Chen. It's later revealed that Skylor is not only the spy, but also Chen's daughter!
The Battle for Ninjago
Chen sends everyone to a jungle island to capture Nya. Kai and Skylor team up, but Skylor reveals her true identity. Most of the Elemental Masters are captured. Chen offers Kai more power if he betrays his friends. Kai pretends to switch sides. When Lloyd is captured, Kai grabs the Staff of Elements and bravely destroys it, giving everyone their powers back!
In the jungle, Clouse and Garmadon fight, and Garmadon sends Clouse to the Cursed Realm. Chen and his army escape the island, but the ninja and Elemental Masters chase them on their elemental dragons.
The Final Showdown
Chen performs a spell to turn his army into powerful Anacondrai warriors. But to make the spell last forever, he needs the "essence" of a real Anacondrai. Pythor, the last true Anacondrai, is captured by Chen. Chen uses Pythor's sweat to finish his spell!
Chen and his new Anacondrai army then attack Ninjago. A huge battle happens at a place called the Corridor of Elders. Pythor tells Garmadon that the only way to defeat Chen's army is for Garmadon to banish himself to the Cursed Realm. This will bring back the original Anacondrai generals. Garmadon agrees, and the spirits of the Anacondrai generals banish Chen and his army to the Cursed Realm. As the portal closes, a single spirit escapes, saying "Morro." This hints at the next big adventure!
