Nipissing District is a special kind of area, called a district, in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It was created way back in 1858. The main town and center of the district is North Bay.
In 2016, about 83,150 people lived here. The land area is about 17,103.52 square kilometers. This means there were about 4.9 people living in each square kilometer. It's one of the more populated districts in northern Ontario.

History of Nipissing District
Nipissing District has played a part in forming other areas. For example, the Sudbury District was created in 1894. It was made from parts of eastern Algoma District and western Nipissing District.
Later, in 1912, the Timiskaming District was also formed. It used parts from Algoma, Nipissing, and Sudbury Districts.
Communities in Nipissing
Nipissing District has different types of communities. These include cities, towns, and townships.
Main City
- North Bay is the largest city and the district's main center.

- West Nipissing
A small part of the town of Kearney is also in Nipissing District. However, its population is counted with the Parry Sound District.
