Exploring Northeastern Ontario
Where is Northeastern Ontario?
Northeastern Ontario is located in the eastern part of Northern Ontario. It includes several important areas called districts. These districts are Algoma, Sudbury, Cochrane, Timiskaming, Nipissing, and Manitoulin.
Sometimes, other areas like Parry Sound District and the District Municipality of Muskoka are also considered part of Northeastern Ontario. However, these two districts are usually grouped with Central Ontario.
People and Languages
One of the most interesting things about Northeastern Ontario is its people. A large number of people living here are Franco-Ontarians. These are people in Ontario who speak French as their first language.
In fact, almost 25 percent of everyone in Northeastern Ontario speaks French at home. This makes the region quite different from Northwestern Ontario, where fewer people speak French. This strong French heritage adds a unique cultural flavor to the region.
