Central Ontario facts for kids
Central Ontario is a special part of Ontario, Canada. It's a smaller area within Southern Ontario, located between Georgian Bay and the eastern end of Lake Ontario.
This region covers about 39,814 square kilometers, which is quite a large area! More than 1 million people call Central Ontario home. Many parts of this subregion are rural, meaning they have lots of open spaces, farms, and forests. The southern areas, however, have more people living closer together in towns and cities. Some of the biggest cities you'll find here are Peterborough, Barrie, and Belleville.
What are the Counties in Central Ontario?
Central Ontario is made up of several important counties. These counties help organize the different towns and communities within the region.

- Simcoe County
One special area is Prince Edward County. It's called a single-tier municipality. This means that instead of having separate town and county governments, all the local services are managed by one main government for the whole county. Ten towns, villages, and townships joined together to form this single county government.
