Nisku is a small community called a hamlet in Alberta, Canada. It is also a large area with many businesses and factories. Nisku is located within Leduc County and is about 705 meters (2,313 feet) above sea level.
The hamlet and its business area are part of a larger region known as Division No. 11. They are also in the federal riding of Edmonton—Wetaskiwin, which is a political area. The word "Nisku" comes from the Cree language and means "goose."
Nisku is found east of where the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (Highway 2) and Highway 625 meet. It sits between the cities of Edmonton and Leduc. Specifically, the hamlet is on the north side of Highway 625 (also called 20 Avenue), between Sparrow Drive and the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway.

Discovering the Nisku Business Park
The Nisku Industrial Park is a very important business area. Some people call it the Nisku Business Park. It completely surrounds the small hamlet of Nisku. This park stretches from the southern edge of Edmonton all the way to the northern edge of Leduc. It is located on the east side of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.
How the Park is Organized
The park is divided by Highway 625 (20 Avenue). This highway changes its name to Highway 19 west of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway. The southern part of the business park is directly across from the Edmonton International Airport. This location is very convenient for businesses that need to transport goods by air.
History and Size of Nisku Park
The Nisku Industrial Park was started in 1972 by the Sparrow family. Brothers Bert, Jim, Murrey, and Don Sparrow helped create it. Over the years, it has grown into a major service center for the entire Edmonton Metropolitan Region. It is now one of the largest industrial and business parks in Western Canada.
The park is very big, covering about 2,044 hectares (5,051 acres). It is home to more than 400 different businesses. These businesses employ over 6,000 people, making it a significant place for jobs. Leduc County does not charge a special business tax in the park, which helps attract companies. Some people have even said the park is "as large as all of downtown Toronto."
People Living in Nisku
The population of the Hamlet of Nisku is quite small. According to a local count done by Leduc County in 2005, only 30 people lived there. This shows that while the business park is huge, the actual residential area is tiny.
