She grew up in the Bay Area, with a mom who was an African-American Civil Rights Activist and a dad who was an Ethiopian freedom fighter. Early Life and Learning
Nnegest Likké was born in Oakland, California. She is half African-American and half Ethiopian. She spent her childhood in the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Area.
As a child, Nnegest traveled all over the world with her mother. Her mom was a Civil Rights Activist who loved to explore. These trips helped Nnegest see many different ways of life beyond what she knew in America.
Nnegest went to Skyline High School in Oakland. After high school, she studied film at Clark Atlanta University (CAU). She earned a degree in Mass Communications.
Her Career Journey
After college, Nnegest moved to Los Angeles to become a screenwriter. While she was learning more about writing, she taught Drama, History, and English at a high school in Los Angeles. Even today, she helps young people who might be facing challenges.
Movies She Made
Phat Girlz (2006) was Nnegest Likké's first major movie. It starred the famous actress Mo'Nique. This film is a romantic comedy about two plus-size women who find love in unexpected ways.
Her second movie was Ben & Ara. After that came her most recent film, Everything But a Man (2019). This movie starred Monica Calhoun and Jimmy Jean-Louis. Nnegest wrote, directed, and produced Everything But a Man. It tells the story of successful women who find it hard to find love. Nnegest is currently working on new projects for both movies and TV shows.
