Career
2017–2019: Starting Out and The Hood Dictionary
NoCap officially began his music career in May 2017 with his first EP, called Believe It. An EP is a music release that has more songs than a single but fewer than an album.
In early 2018, he released a song called "Legend". The music video for this song was watched over a million times on YouTube. This song was also on his first mixtape, Neighborhood Hero, which came out in July 2018. A mixtape is like an album, but often released independently. He then worked with Rylo Rodriguez on a mixtape called Rogerville in September 2018. In November of that year, he was featured on a song by Lil Baby called "Dreams 2 Reality".
In 2019, NoCap signed a record deal with YoungBoy Never Broke Again's Never Broke Again label and Atlantic Records. In March 2019, NoCap released the song "Punching Bag". Later that month, he released another popular song, "Ghetto Angels". "Ghetto Angels" has been viewed over 80 million times on YouTube and was certified Platinum. This means it sold over one million copies.
In May, NoCap and Polo G were featured on a song called "No Patience". Later that month, NoCap released his second solo mixtape, The Backend Child. This mixtape was his first to appear on the Billboard 200 chart, reaching number 170. The project featured other artists like Rylo Rodriguez, OMB Peezy, and Quando Rondo. NoCap also released music videos for songs from the album, including "Blind Nights" and "Set It Off".
In July 2019, NoCap performed a freestyle for DJ Booth's Bless The Booth series. A freestyle is when a rapper makes up lyrics on the spot. The next month, he released the song "Exotic". He also performed another freestyle for HotNewHipHop. On October 11, 2019, NoCap was featured on "Outta Here Safe" with Quando Rondo on YoungBoy's popular mixtape, AI YoungBoy 2.
On November 19, 2019, NoCap released his third mixtape, The Hood Dictionary. This mixtape included songs like "First Day In" and a remix of "Ghetto Angels" featuring Lil Durk and Jagged Edge. The album reached number 80 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In July 2020, NoCap released his fourth mixtape, Steel Human. This mixtape reached number 31 on the Billboard 200. It included the song "Count a Million" featuring Lil Uzi Vert.
2021–2023: Mr. Crawford and The Main Bird
On July 21, 2021, NoCap was released from prison. Soon after, on August 8, 2021, he released "Vaccine" and "Vaccine (Falling Star)". "Vaccine" was very successful, reaching number 2 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and earning a Platinum certification.
In early 2022, NoCap released new songs like "I'll Be Here" and "Shackles to Diamonds". He also released "Save the Day" featuring Kodak Black. These songs were part of his first full-length studio album, Mr. Crawford. This album was released on April 29, 2022, and was a big success. It debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200, selling 29,000 copies in its first week. This made it his highest-charting project. The album featured artists like Internet Money, Kodak Black, and NBA YoungBoy.
In November 2022, NoCap had a disagreement with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, the head of the Never Broke Again label. This led to NoCap leaving the label. His last project released under Never Broke Again was The Main Bird, which came out on December 16, 2022. It featured Rylo Rodriguez and Rob49.
Even though he didn't release a full project in 2023, NoCap was featured on a song called "Thang for You" by his friend Rylo Rodriguez on June 23, 2023. This song reached number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which was NoCap's first time on that chart.
2024–Present: Before I Disappear Again
NoCap had been teasing his second album for over a year. On March 24, 2024, he announced that his new album, Before I Disappear Again, would be released. It was first set for April 16, 2024, but was later moved to July 12, 2024. On June 8, NoCap released the first song from the album, "Baby Drake". The second song, "Yacht Party", was released on July 12. The third song, "Maliboo", came out on August 2.
