Noah Stewart (born in 1978) is an American opera singer known for his powerful tenor voice. He released his first album, Noah, in March 2012. This album became very popular, reaching number 14 on the UK Albums Chart and number 1 on the UK Classical Album Chart.

Early Life and Training

Noah Stewart grew up in Harlem, New York. He started his music journey at The Harlem School of the Arts, where he studied classical music. When he was 12, his choir teacher encouraged him to pursue a music career. Noah even did voice-overs for popular shows like Sesame Street and won first place in the New England Music Competition.

He attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. There, he performed in his first opera and even sang backup for pop artists like Hootie and the Blowfish. During this time, Noah fell in love with opera and decided he wanted to become an opera singer. His mentor, the famous soprano Leontyne Price, suggested he attend The Juilliard School, where he received a full scholarship.

While at Juilliard, Noah started getting noticed in the classical music world. He was even invited to perform in Germany with The Bach Society of Columbia. After returning to the United States, he joined the San Francisco Opera's Merola Program. This program gave him his first experience with modern opera. He later became a San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow, which led to many important performances. For example, he once stepped into a role in Macbeth with only 15 minutes' notice!

Noah Stewart has won many awards, including first prize in The Mario Lanza Competition for Tenors. People often describe his voice as strong and sweet, and they praise his natural musical talent and impressive acting skills. In 2008, he joined the famous Metropolitan Opera.

Opera Performances and Concerts

Noah Stewart has performed in many operas across the United States. Some of his roles include Cavaradossi, Pinkerton, and Rodolfo in various productions. He also performed as Luigi in Il Trittico at the Castleton Festival, led by the famous conductor Lorin Maazel.

Internationally, Noah has performed in South Africa and at the Royal Albert Hall. He was also part of Peter Sellars' well-known production of Purcell's Indian Queen in Spain, Russia, and Germany. In 2012, he made his debut at Covent Garden, a very famous opera house in London.

In 2011, he played Lieutenant Pinkerton in Opera North's production of Madama Butterfly. A big moment in his career came in 2012 when his album Noah became number one on the UK Classical Album Chart. He was the first black musician to achieve this, and the album stayed at the top for seven weeks! In 2013, he performed as Don Jose in a production of Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall.

Noah has also performed in many concerts. He has sung with the Birmingham Symphony and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his debut at the BBC Proms, a major music festival, in 2012. In 2015, he was a guest on BBC Radio 4's Midweek program, where he shared his career story and sang "Amazing Grace". A year later, in 2016, he sang the US National Anthem at an NFL football game in London.
