Joseph Jean-Noël Yves Picard (born December 25, 1938 – died September 6, 2017) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He was a defence player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1965 to 1973. He was known for his strong play and a famous moment involving Bobby Orr.

Noël Picard's Hockey Journey

Picard started his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens in 1965. He was a defenceman, which means he helped protect his team's goal. He later played for the St. Louis Blues and the Atlanta Flames.

Picard won one Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1965. The Stanley Cup is the championship trophy for the NHL, and winning it is a huge achievement for any hockey player.

The Famous Bobby Orr Moment

Noël Picard is especially remembered for a famous moment in the 1970 Stanley Cup Finals. During that game, Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins scored the winning goal. As Orr jumped into the air to celebrate, Picard, who was playing for the St. Louis Blues, accidentally tripped him.

Noël Picard's Life After Hockey

After he stopped playing, Picard worked as a broadcaster for the St. Louis Blues games. This meant he helped describe the games for fans watching or listening.

He also bought a restaurant called Midway in Cuba, Missouri, in 1976. He later sold the restaurant. Eventually, Picard moved back to Montreal, Canada, where he passed away in 2017.

Noël Picard had two children with his wife, Viviane. They were raised in the St. Louis area. His daughter, Annie, lives in Chicago, and his son, Dan, lives in New Baden, Illinois. Noël Picard also had an older brother named Roger Picard, who was also a hockey player. They even played together briefly for the St. Louis Blues for one season.
