Journey of the Noguera Ribagorzana River
The Noguera Ribagorzana river begins high up in the mountains. Its source is in a place called Vielha e Mijaran. This is in the Aran Valley, about 2400 meters (7,874 feet) above sea level. The upper part of its valley is a main route to the Aran Valley. This route includes the N-230 road and the long Vielha tunnel. The tunnel is 5230 meters (about 3.2 miles) long. It goes under the watershed.
Where the River Flows
As the river flows, it passes through the traditional county of Ribagorza. It also goes by the town of Pont de Suert in Alta Ribagorça. The Noguera Ribagorzana collects water from an area of 2036 square kilometers (786 square miles).
Dams and Reservoirs
Along its path, the river helps create two large reservoirs. These are like big lakes made by Dams. One is called the Escales reservoir. It is located below Pont de Suert. The other is the Canelles reservoir. This one is found above Ivars de Noguera in the Noguera region. These reservoirs are important for storing water.
Where the River Ends
Finally, the Noguera Ribagorzana river joins another river. It meets the Segre river from the right side. This meeting point is near Vilanova de la Barca in Segrià.
