Nomi Kaplan (born December 7, 1933) is a talented Lithuanian-Canadian photographer and artist. She is known for her creative work in both photography and art.

Early Life and Education

Nomi Kaplan was born on December 7, 1933, in a place called Memel, which is in Lithuania. Her parents were Bernard and Ndia Kaplan. In 1940, when Nomi was young, her family moved to Ontario, Canada.

Later, in 1955, Nomi settled in Vancouver. She studied at several universities and art schools. These included Wayne State University, the University of British Columbia, and the Vancouver School of Art. She also took extra courses in art, photography, and making films and videos. From 1991 to 1994, Nomi Kaplan even taught photography at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

A Creative Career

Nomi Kaplan has had a long and interesting career as an artist. She is especially known for her photography. Her work often explores different ideas and feelings through images.

Film and Community Work

Beyond her photography, Nomi Kaplan also helped with film projects. In 1972, she helped organize the very first Women's Film Festival in Vancouver. This festival showed movies made by women.

She also helped start a group called ReelFeelings. This group made a film called So Where's My Prince Already?. This film was shown at the New York Women's Film Festival in 1973.
