Nonkululeko Nyembezi, also known as Nku, is a very successful South African engineer and businesswoman. She was born on March 22, 1960.
She is known for her important roles in big companies. On June 1, 2022, she became the Chairperson of the Standard Bank Group and Standard Bank of South Africa. This means she leads the board of directors for one of Africa's largest banks.
Before this, she worked in different industries like steel, telecommunications, and finance. She was also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IchorCoal N.V., a mining company in the Netherlands, starting in March 2014.

Early Life and Education
Nonkululeko Nyembezi was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Her father, Aubrey, was a lawyer, and her mother, Debiya, was a nurse. She has an older brother named Manqoba and a younger sister named Nontando.
She grew up in a Methodist family. She went to primary school in Clermont, KwaZulu-Natal. Later, she attended Inanda Seminary School near Durban for her high school education.
Academic Achievements
Nonkululeko was an excellent student, especially in science and math. She was the top student in South Africa during her Junior Certificate year. After finishing high school, she received a special scholarship from the Anglo American Corporation.
She went on to study electrical engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree there. She then continued her studies at the California Institute of Technology, where she received a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering. Later, she also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Open University Business School.
Currently, she is the Chancellor of the Durban University of Technology. This is an important leadership role at a university.
Career Journey
Nonkululeko Nyembezi has had a long and impressive career. She started working at IBM in the United States and South Africa from 1986 to 1998. After that, she joined Alliance Capital Management, where she led their financial services.

In 2008, she became an executive director at ArcelorMittal South Africa, a large steel company. She worked there for six years. In March 2014, she became the CEO of IchorCoal, a Dutch mining group.
