History of Noonan

Noonan was started in 1907. It was named after a family who had businesses, farms, and coal interests in the area. For a while, Noonan was known as "The White City." This was because a rule said all buildings had to be painted white!

A very important person, Gerald W. VandeWalle, was born in Noonan. He served for a very long time, 45 years, on the North Dakota Supreme Court. He was even the Chief Justice for 26 of those years, from 1993 to 2019.
