History of Noordoostpolder
The land that is now Noordoostpolder was once part of a large inland sea called the Zuiderzee. In the 20th century, the Dutch started a huge project called the Zuiderzee Works. They built dikes and drained parts of this sea. This created new land for farming and places for people to live.
Noordoostpolder was officially established as a municipality on January 1, 1962. It was a big step in creating new land for the country.
