Norax facts for kids
Norax (pronounced NOR-aks) was a legendary hero from the ancient stories of Sardinia. He was believed to be the son of the god Hermes and a woman named Eriteide, who was the daughter of the giant Geryon. Norax's story is mentioned in the writings of ancient historians like Pausanias, Sallust, and Solinus.
Mythology
According to the ancient writer Pausanias, Norax led a group of people called the Iberians to the island of Sardinia. These Iberians later founded an important city there called Nora. Another ancient writer, Solinus, added that Norax came to Sardinia from a famous mythical city called Tartessos. This city was located in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula, which is where modern-day Spain and Portugal are.
