Nordelta is a modern city located in Tigre Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It is about 30 kilometers away from Buenos Aires City. Nordelta is known as a large, planned community. It started in 1999 with nine neighborhoods. It was the first "ciudadpueblo" (meaning "city-town" or "city-village") in Argentina.
Nordelta is close to the towns of General Pacheco and Benavidez. Some people even call Nordelta "the Miami of Argentina" because of its style.
Compared to older planned communities nearby, Nordelta's natural areas, like its trees and plants, look very new. This is because the older communities have very large, mature trees, while Nordelta's trees are still growing.
Nordelta has many facilities and services for its residents. These include swimming pools, fields for soccer and tennis, a shopping mall, and a medical center. There is also a sports club, four private schools, playgrounds, and saunas. Over the years, more and more people have moved to Nordelta, leading to new neighborhoods being built. It was also one of the first places in Argentina to get a very modern communications network from Telecom.
Some people have criticized the Nordelta project. They say it was built on Paraná wetlands, which are important homes for wildlife. Building on these wetlands, along with other changes like cities growing bigger and more farming, can lead to problems like wildfires. It also makes it harder for the land to soak up rainfall, which can cause flooding.
The people living in Nordelta created the Nordelta Foundation. This group works to help improve the lives of people in need. They focus on helping those living in Las Tunas, a nearby community.
History of Nordelta
Nordelta was built on land that used to be swampy. The land was changed to create many lakes surrounded by grass and trees. This made the area very appealing to people looking for a peaceful place to live. Nordelta is the biggest and most successful example of a planned community in Greater Buenos Aires. Many believe it has improved the living standards in the area.
Besides the quiet and green surroundings, a major reason people choose to live in Nordelta is its strong security. It has many layers of safety measures, making it much more secure than the areas around it. The company Consultatio, led by Eduardo Constantini, was a big part of creating this project.
In the year 2000, about 98 people lived in Nordelta. By 2007, this number had grown to around 10,000 residents.
Nordelta has hosted many cultural events over the years. In December 2004, 30 musicians from the Argentine Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional performed an open-air concert on a raft on one of Nordelta's lakes.
Famous artists have also performed there. In May 2006, pianist Horacio Lavandera played a concert for over 800 people. The money raised from this event was given to the Nordelta Foundation. Later that month, singer Fabiana Cantilo performed for 700 people, also donating proceeds to the Nordelta Foundation. In August, Vicentico performed for 1400 people, with money going to the foundation.
Diego Torres held a concert for 3,000 people, celebrating the end of 2006. In May 2007, Horacio Lavandera returned with the National Symphony Orchestra to play a concert honoring Ludwig van Beethoven. This event was just for Nordelta residents and their guests.
In June 2007, Gustavo Cerati, a famous rock musician, performed for over 2,000 people. The money from ticket sales helped the Nordelta Foundation support Las Tunas.
Nordelta has also hosted sports events. A tennis match took place between two famous players: Argentine Guillermo Cañas and Spaniard Carlos Moyà.
In late 2021, Nordelta experienced an increase in carpinchos (capybaras). These large rodents were seen eating lawns, biting dogs, and causing traffic issues. Some experts, like ecologist Enrique Viale, explained that it's not really an "invasion." Instead, they said that Nordelta was built on the capybaras' natural home. This event led to discussions about how cities grow and affect wildlife.
