About North Moonta

North Moonta is part of different government areas. These areas help manage the region.

Local Government and Representation

North Moonta is part of the Copper Coast Council. This council looks after local services. These services include roads, parks, and waste collection.

For state government, North Moonta is in the Narungga area. This means people living here vote for a representative in the state parliament. This person helps make laws for South Australia.

For the national government, it's in the Grey area. People here vote for a representative in the Australian Parliament. This person helps make laws for the whole country.

How North Moonta Grew

North Moonta started as a private subdivision. This means a large piece of land was divided into smaller plots for people to buy and build homes. The official borders of North Moonta were set in January 1999.

Community Facilities

North Moonta was once home to the Moonta Hospital. This hospital was on Majors Road. It closed its doors in December 2013.

However, the group that ran the hospital still helps the community. Moonta Health & Aged Care Services now operates the Parkview Aged Hostel. This hostel is next to the old hospital site. It provides care for older people.

There are also two special villages for older adults in North Moonta. The Moonta Lifestyle Village is on Barbary Court. The Copper Coast Lifestyle Village is on James Place. These villages offer homes and services for people in their retirement years.

Land Use in North Moonta

The southern part of North Moonta has different types of land use.

  • To the west of the main Moonta-Wallaroo Road, there's a residential area. This is where people live. It's bordered by Haylock Road.
  • To the east of the main road, there's an industrial area. This is where businesses and factories might be located.

There's also a "rural living" area. This is west of the residential zone. It's bordered by Haylock Road, Muddy Lane, and Binney Road. This area allows for larger blocks of land. It gives people a country lifestyle close to town.

The rest of North Moonta, about two-thirds of the area, is used for primary production. This means it's used for farming or other activities that produce raw materials.

Boundary Changes

On August 14, 2014, North Moonta's borders changed. It received more land from two nearby areas. These areas were Warburto and Cross Roads. This change was part of a plan to adjust local area boundaries.
