Paramatta is a small place, or "locality," in the Australian state of South Australia. It's found on the Yorke Peninsula, a piece of land shaped like a boot. Paramatta is about 132 kilometers (around 82 miles) north-west of Adelaide city centre, which is the main city in South Australia.
This area is on the north-east side of the town of Moonta. The name "Paramatta" comes from an Aboriginal phrase. It's the same phrase used for the suburb of Sydney called Parramatta.
What is Paramatta?
Paramatta is part of a larger area governed by the Copper Coast Council. This council helps manage local services. It also falls within a federal area called the division of Grey. For state government, it's in the electoral district of Narungga.
How Paramatta Got Its Name
The boundaries for Paramatta were officially set in January 1999. This was done to keep a long-used local name. The name "Paramatta" actually came from an old mining site called the Paramatta Mine.
Changes to the Area
In 2014, some land was added to Paramatta from a nearby place called Warburto. This change helped make postal deliveries easier. It also connected the area better to its historical past. Today, most of the land in Paramatta is used for agriculture, which means farming.
