North Yelta is a small country area in the Australian state of South Australia. It is located on the northern part of the Yorke Peninsula.

About North Yelta

North Yelta is found on the eastern edge of the town of Moonta. The local government for this area is the Copper Coast Council. The official name and borders for North Yelta were set in January 1999.

Most of the land in North Yelta is used for farming and for grazing animals. This means there are often large farms and fields. There are also special rules for houses built near Mines Road. This road forms the northern border of North Yelta. It connects Moonta in the south to Kadina in the north. These rules help to keep the old-fashioned look of the buildings along the road, which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s.

History of North Yelta

The area around North Yelta has a history linked to mining. The old Yelta Mine is located right on the border between North Yelta and Yelta. There was also a separate mine called the North Yelta mine. This mine was run by the North Yelta Mining Company. It worked on the same valuable mineral deposits that were found in the bigger Yelta and Moonta mines.

North Yelta also had its own Post Office. It first opened in June 1877. The Post Office served the community for many years before it finally closed in May 1972.
