History of North Valley Stream
North Valley Stream gets its name because it is located just north of another community called Valley Stream.
In the 1950s, a major road called the Southern State Parkway was made wider. This project increased the parkway from four lanes to six lanes through the hamlet. To make space for the wider road, about 213 homes in the North Valley Stream area had to be moved or taken down.

According to the United States Census Bureau, North Valley Stream covers a total area of about 1.9 square miles (4.9 square kilometers). This entire area is land, meaning there are no large bodies of water like lakes or rivers within its borders.
