Northerly Island is a special place in Chicago, Illinois. It's a peninsula (land surrounded by water on three sides) that was actually made by people! This 91-acre area sits right along Chicago's beautiful lakefront. It's home to the Adler Planetarium, a cool museum where you can learn about space.

Northerly Island connects to the mainland through a narrow strip of land called Solidarity Drive. Along this drive, you'll see statues of important historical figures. These include Tadeusz Kościuszko, Karel Havlíček Borovský, and Nicolaus Copernicus. These statues are made in an old, classic style.

From Airport to Park

For many years, Northerly Island was home to a small airport called Meigs Field. This airport was used for private planes. However, the airport was closed down. Now, the land has been turned into a beautiful park.

Northerly Island is now part of Chicago's Museum Campus. This is an area where several big museums are located. It's a great spot for learning and having fun outdoors.
