A Look at Northfield's Past
The name "Northfield" was first used around 1852. It appeared in a newspaper, the South Australia Register, in a marriage announcement. By 1855, the area was sometimes called "Northfield, Dry Creek."
Early Transport and Quarries
Northfield had its own Northfield railway line and railway station. This train line opened in 1857 and helped people travel around. It also helped move stone from local quarries. The passenger train service stopped on May 29, 1987.
