Norweilemil facts for kids
The Norweilemil were an indigenous Australian group of people. They lived in the Northern Territory of Australia. They were one of the many Aboriginal communities who have lived on this land for thousands of years.
Norweilemil Country
The Norweilemil people lived in a small area of land. Experts like Norman Tindale estimated their territory was about 400 square miles. This land was located on the southeastern side of the Van Diemen Gulf. It was also west of the West Alligator River. They were also known to live near a place called Stuart Point.
How They Lived
The Norweilemil people were part of a larger group of tribes in their area. An early researcher named Walter Baldwin Spencer studied many of these groups. He noted that the Norweilemil, along with other nearby tribes, shared some common ways of life. For example, they did not seem to use special wooden instruments called bullroarers, which were used by some other Aboriginal groups in ceremonies.
