Notch Lake is a cool, man-made lake in a place called Edgewood, New York. It's nestled in the beautiful Catskill Mountains. This lake is super close to a famous spot called Stony Clove Notch.

Notch Lake is also right next to the Devil's Tombstone Campsite. A road called New York State Route 214 runs along its edge. There's even a parking lot right by the water, making it easy to visit. This lake is special because it's where the Stony Clove Creek begins its journey.

Amazing Forest at Notch Lake

One really interesting thing about Notch Lake is its unique forest. You can find a patch of Boreal Forest growing here. This type of forest usually grows in very cold, northern places.

It's unusual to see it in the Catskills at such a low elevation. Most Boreal Forests are found much higher up, usually above 3,000 feet. This makes the forest around Notch Lake a special sight!

A Small Fire in the Past

In the 1990s, there was a small fire near the northern part of the lake. This event was a part of the lake's history.

Visiting Notch Lake

Notch Lake is a great spot for a day trip. You can enjoy the scenery and the fresh air.

Camping Rules

If you want to camp, you can't set up your tent right next to the parking lot or the lake itself. This area is only for day visits. However, there's a campground very close by. You can take a short walk south along Route 214 to the Devil's Tombstone Campground. That's where you can enjoy camping overnight!
