Scientific classification |
Novakiella is a special group of orb-weaver spiders found only in the South Pacific. This group has just one known species, called Novakiella trituberculosa. You can find this spider in Australia and New Zealand.
About Its Name and Family
Spiders are grouped into families and genera, much like how your last name tells you which family you belong to. The spider group Novakiella was first named by scientists N. Court and For Forster in 1993. They gave it this name to replace an older name, Novakia.
The only spider in this group, N. trituberculosa, has had a few name changes over time! It was first placed in an older group called Epeira. Later, a scientist named Carl Friedrich Roewer moved it to the Araneus group. Finally, it got its own special group, Novakia, which was then renamed to Novakiella.
Where This Spider Lives
This unique spider, Novakiella trituberculosa, has only been found in two countries: Australia and New Zealand. This means it is native to the South Pacific region.
