Numa Pompilio Llona (March 5, 1832 – April 5, 1907) was an important writer, teacher, and diplomat from Ecuador. He was known for his beautiful poetry and for helping his country in different ways. Even though he was very famous in his time, many people don't know about him today.

Early Life and Education
Numa Pompilio Llona was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. His father was a lawyer named Manuel Leocadio de Llona y Rivera. His mother, Mercedes Echeverri Llados, was from Colombia.
He went to primary school in Cali, Colombia. Later, he finished secondary school in Lima, Peru. Numa Pompilio Llona then studied law. He earned his law degree from the Universidad San Marcos in Lima, Peru.
Career and Public Service
Numa Pompilio Llona had many different jobs throughout his life. From 1854 to 1859, he worked as a literary editor. He wrote for a Peruvian newspaper called El Comercio.
In 1882, he became the head, or rector, of the University of Guayaquil. There, he also taught classes on art and literature. He was also a diplomat for Ecuador. This meant he represented his country in other nations. He worked in Spain (1860–62), France, Italy (1864), and Colombia (1884).
During his time as a diplomat, he met many famous writers. Some of these included Victor Hugo, George Sand, and Alphonse de Lamartine. He also directed the Municipal Museum and Library of Guayaquil from 1904 to 1907.
Family Life
Numa Pompilio Llona was married twice. His first wife was Enriqueta Marchena y Bentín. After she passed away, he married another writer. His second wife was the Peruvian poet and journalist Lastenia Larriva.
Later Life and Death
Numa Pompilio Llona passed away on April 5, 1907. He is buried in the Cementerio General of Guayaquil. His grave is in crypt number 705-C.
Lasting Legacy
Numa Pompilio Llona is remembered in his home city. A street in the famous Las Peñas neighborhood of Guayaquil is named after him. This area is a popular place for tourists. Many old houses on this street are now art galleries. Several well-known artists have their studios there. There are also schools in Ecuador that are named after Numa Pompilio Llona.
