Nuristan (which means "Land of Light" in Persian) is a special region in Afghanistan. It's also sometimes spelled Nurestan or Nooristan. This area is located in the southern part of the amazing Hindu Kush mountain range. Think of it like a state or province within Afghanistan. The main city and capital of Nuristan is called Paroon.

Nuristan is known for its beautiful, rugged mountains and deep valleys. It's a place with a unique history and culture, different from many other parts of Afghanistan.

Nuristan Province is divided into several smaller areas called districts. Each district helps manage the local communities and services. These districts include:

  • Parun
  • Wama
  • Waygal

Some of these districts were created or changed around 2004 to help organize the province better. For example, Du Ab District was formed from parts of other districts like Nuristan and Mangol.

Where is Nuristan Located?
