Nymphargus prasinus is a special kind of frog that belongs to the Centrolenidae family. These frogs were once known by a different name, Cochranella prasina.
This unique frog is found only in Colombia. This means it is endemic to Colombia, and you won't find it living naturally anywhere else in the world.

Where the Glass Frog Lives
Nymphargus prasinus makes its home in different types of forests and near rivers. It prefers warm, wet places.
Forest Homes
You can find these frogs in two main types of forests:
- Subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests: These are forests that are not very high up and get a lot of rain. They are usually warm all year round.
- Subtropical or tropical moist montane forests: These forests are found on the sides of mountains. They are also very wet and warm, but a bit cooler than the lowland forests.
River Life
Besides forests, Nymphargus prasinus also lives near rivers. Rivers provide water for drinking and for the frogs to lay their eggs. The moist air around rivers is also perfect for them.
Why This Frog Needs Help
Sadly, Nymphargus prasinus is facing a big problem: habitat loss. This means the places where it lives are disappearing.
What is Habitat Loss?
Habitat loss happens when forests are cut down or rivers become polluted. When this happens, the frogs lose their homes and the food they need to survive. This makes it very hard for them to find shelter, food, and safe places to lay their eggs.
Protecting the Future
Because of habitat loss, the Nymphargus prasinus is considered a vulnerable species. This means it is at risk of disappearing if we don't protect its natural homes. Efforts are being made to save these special frogs and their unique forest and river habitats in Colombia.
