Early Life and Learning

Núria Albó was born on July 2, 1930, in La Garriga, a town near Barcelona, Spain. When she was young, her father died during the Spanish Civil War. Because of the war, it was hard for her to go to a regular school. But her mother made sure Núria and her four brothers and sisters learned at home.

Núria also loved music, and her mother helped her learn to play the piano. She loved reading books by authors like Hans Christian Andersen. She also enjoyed books with pictures by Spanish artist Lola Anglada and English artist Arthur Rackham. Even as a child, she tried to read books written in the Catalan language. This love for Catalan books helped her start writing her own stories and poems.

Career and Achievements

In 1948, Núria started studying philosophy at the University of Barcelona. She didn't finish her first studies, but she went back later. In 1962, she earned a degree in teaching.

Núria won her first writing award in 1958. In 1962, she published her first book of poems called La mà pel front. Ten years later, she released another poetry book, Díptic, with Maria Àngels Anglada. This book had a special introduction by Marià Manent and drawings by Ricard Creus.

Núria was a teacher for 20 years. Then, in 1979, she was chosen to be the mayor of La Garriga, her hometown. This was a big step for her!

In 1980, her novel Desencís (which means "Disillusion") won the Premi Vila de'Arenys. This book is a type of "political novel." This means it tells a story about politics, like elections. Núria Albó is married to Guillermo Serra. They have four children named Mireia, Guillem, Oriol, and Judit. In 2012, she received the Creu de Sant Jordi Award. This is one of the highest honors given in Catalonia, Spain, for people who have done great things for the region.
