By 2020, the population grew to 2,979 people. This community is part of the larger Granbury micropolitan area and the big Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Oak Trail Shores is located in the northern part of Hood County, Texas. It sits on the southwestern side of Lake Granbury. This lake is a reservoir on the Brazos River.
The community is about 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Granbury. Granbury is the main town, or county seat, of Hood County.
