Ocshapalca is a tall mountain in the country of Peru. It is part of the Andes mountain range. This mountain is about 5,888 meters (or 19,318 feet) high. That's almost 6 kilometers straight up!

The name Ocshapalca might come from the Quechua language. Uqsha means "high altitude grass." Pallqa means "bifurcation" or "division into two parts." This name probably describes the mountain's shape or its surroundings.

Where is Ocshapalca?

Ocshapalca is located in the Ancash Region of Peru. It is in the Huaraz Province. The mountain sits right on the border between two districts: Independencia and Tarica.

This mountain is part of a special group of peaks called the Cordillera Blanca. The Cordillera Blanca is a very high mountain range. It is known for its many snowy peaks and glaciers. Ocshapalca is found between two other mountains. Hatunkunka is to its west, and Ranrapalca is to its east.

Climbing Ocshapalca
