Odeya Rush (born May 12, 1997) is an actress from Israel. She is well-known for her main roles in movies like The Giver (2014), Goosebumps (2015), and Lady Bird (2017). She has also appeared in Dumplin' (2018) and Let It Snow (2019).
Early Life
Odeya Rush was born Odeya Rushinek in Haifa, Israel, on May 12, 1997. Her first name, Odeya, means "I will thank God" in Hebrew. When she was eight years old, she loved writing and performing plays in her hometown.
Her family moved to the United States when she was nine. This was because her father got a job in Alabama. When she first arrived, Odeya only spoke Hebrew and did not know English. She went to a Jewish school in Birmingham, Alabama. Later, she moved to Midland Park, New Jersey, and attended public school there.
In 2013, Odeya and her family moved to Los Angeles. She has six brothers. Four of them are younger than her, including two sets of twins. She also has two older half-brothers who live in Israel.
Career
Modelling
Before she became an actress, Odeya started her career as a model. She was discovered in the United States when she was a child. She appeared in big advertisements for famous fashion brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, and H&M.
She also worked on a summer campaign for FILA and Urban Outfitters in 2018.
Acting
Odeya's first acting jobs were in TV shows in 2010. She was in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit called "Branded." She also appeared in Curb Your Enthusiasm in an episode called "Mister Softee."
Her first movie role was in 2012. She played Joni Jerome in the Disney film The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Joni was the best friend of the main character, Timothy.
In 2014, Odeya co-starred in the science fiction movie The Giver. This film was based on a popular book by Lois Lowry. Odeya played a character named Fiona. Famous actors like Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep were also in the movie.
In 2015, Odeya played Ashley Burwood in the comedy film See You in Valhalla. Her next big role was the main female character in Goosebumps. This movie was based on R. L. Stine's very popular book series. Odeya played Hannah Fairchild, who was the "daughter" of R. L. Stine (played by Jack Black). Hannah and her neighbor worked together to fight the Goosebumps monsters.
In 2016, Odeya finished filming a comedy movie called Dear Dictator. She starred in it with Michael Caine and Katie Holmes. She also played Ella Hatto in the action-thriller film The Hunter's Prayer.
In 2017, she had a supporting role in Greta Gerwig's movie Lady Bird. This film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Odeya and the other actors in Lady Bird were nominated for many awards as a group. In the same year, she also starred in The Bachelors with J. K. Simmons.
In 2021, Odeya played the main character in her first Israeli TV drama series, Baalat HaChalomot, which is in Hebrew. In 2022, she appeared in the comedy-drama film Cha Cha Real Smooth and the horror film Umma. She also starred in the 2023 film Dangerous Waters.
