Sook-Ja Oh was born in Seoul, which is a big city in Korea. She went to Kyung Hee University to study music. There, she earned her first degree in 1971. She then earned a master's degree in 1973.
She loved learning about music! So, she continued her studies in the United States. She learned about electronic music at Peabody College. Electronic music is made using computers and special equipment. She also learned how to lead an orchestra (a large group of musicians) at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
