Old Fields is a small community in northern Hardy County, West Virginia, United States. It is located right by the South Branch Potomac River. An "unincorporated community" means it's not a city or town with its own local government.
Over time, Old Fields has been known by a few different names. These include Indian Old Field, Indian Old Fields, and Oldfields. It was also once called "Fort Pleasant," which was a fort built during the French and Indian War.

This community got its name because the area where it was first built used to be an old field used by Native Americans.
Historic Buildings and Sites
Old Fields is home to several interesting old buildings. These places tell stories about the past.
- Old Fields Church: Built in 1812, this church is the second-oldest church in all of West Virginia.
- Fort Pleasant: This was a fort built a long time ago during the French and Indian War.
- Isaac Van Meter House: This house was built in the 1810s.
- Garrett Van Meter House: This house was built in 1835.
- Willow Wall: This historic home was built in 1812.
- Buena Vista: Built in 1836, this house was for William T. Van Meter.
- Traveler’s Rest: This home was built in 1856 for three sisters: Ann, Rebecca, and Susan Van Meter.
- Peter Casey House: A very famous person, George Washington, once spent the night here. He stayed at this house as a boy in 1748 while on a trip to survey land for Lord Fairfax.
