History of Old Homestead

Old Homestead was first planned in 1923. At that time, it was part of Ecorse Township. For about 20 years, most of the land was used for farming. Only a few streets from the original plan still have their first names today. These include Sycamore, Chestnut, Commonwealth, and Superior Streets.

In 1958, the remaining parts of Ecorse Township became the city of Southgate. Old Homestead was included in this change and became part of Southgate.
