Olivella (pronounced ooli-VEH-lya) is a small town, also called a municipality, in Catalonia, Spain. It is located in the province of Barcelona. This charming place is part of the region known as Garraf.
A Look Back in Time: Olivella's History
The first known village in Olivella began around the year 992. It was built near an old castle called Castell vell. The people living there mostly grew crops without much water. This farming method is known as dryland agriculture.
Sadly, a terrible sickness called the black plague caused many deaths. Because of this, the first village was almost completely abandoned.
However, people started to resettle the area in the 14th century. Slowly, the town began to grow and become more successful. Today, you can find new housing areas in Olivella. There is also a special place called "Sakya Tashi Ling", which is a Buddhist monastery. It is located in an area called Plana Novella.
Nature and Location
Olivella is located in the Garraf Massif, which is a mountain range. The town is part of a beautiful natural park area. It is not far from the big city of Barcelona. This makes Olivella a great spot for enjoying nature and outdoor activities.
