Oliver Peck started tattooing when he was 17 years old. He would practice on himself and his friends. By the time he was 19, in 1991, he began tattooing professionally.
Judging on Ink Master
In January 2012, the TV show Ink Master first aired. Oliver Peck was a judge, along with Dave Navarro and Chris Nunez. He continued to be a judge until season 13 in 2020. During that season, some old photos of Oliver Peck caused controversy. He announced on Instagram that he would be leaving the show. He said the photos were a distraction from the show he loved.
Creating Tattoo Traditions
Oliver Peck is known for starting a special tradition. He is credited with offering $13 tattoos on Friday the 13th. In 1995, he held a 24-hour tattooing party to celebrate the day. This idea became very popular. He said he wasn't the first to do the number 13 on Friday the 13th. However, he definitely helped make it a big event. His shop, Elm Street Tattoo, often expects about 1,200 customers for this event each year.
In June 2008, Peck broke a world record. He tattooed the number 13 on 415 different people in 24 hours. This happened at his Elm Street Tattoo shop in Dallas. His ex-wife, Kat Von D, had held the record before him. This achievement was even listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
In 2018, Peck introduced "tattoo roulette" at Elm Street Tattoo. This is where a client picks a random tattoo design from a gumball machine. It's a fun and surprising way to get a new tattoo.
Awards and Recognition
In 2015, Oliver Peck was named "Best Tattoo Artist." This award came from the Dallas Observer Best of Dallas contest. Many people in the tattoo world respect his work. In 2017, a writer called him "an internationally renowned tattooer." Another publication said he was "one of the most visible and respected tattooers in the world." His tattoos are famous for their classic American style. They are also known for their great attention to detail.
Tiki Loco Restaurant
In October 2018, Oliver Peck opened a restaurant called Tiki Loco. It was a mix of a coffee shop and a vegan restaurant. The restaurant was located in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas. It closed because of rising costs and fewer people visiting the area.
