Early Life
Oliver Riedel was born in Schwerin, Germany. This was on April 11, 1971. He had a good relationship with his parents. He felt this was because they were close in age.
As a child, Oliver was not the best student. However, his mother helped him get through school. He was a very shy person. This was especially true when he was a teenager. While his friends went to parties, he often preferred to just "hang out."
Music Career
In 1992, Oliver Riedel started playing music. He joined a band called the Inchtabokatables. This band played folk and punk rock music. In the same year, he traveled to the United States. He went with Richard Kruspe and Till Lindemann.
In 1993, Oliver helped start a new music project. It was called Tempelprayers. He started it with Richard Kruspe and Christoph Schneider. In 1994, they joined with Till Lindemann. They entered a music contest in Berlin. They won a chance to record music in a professional studio. Later, Paul Landers and Christian "Flake" Lorenz joined the group. The band then changed its name to Rammstein.
Personal Life
Oliver Riedel has two children. He enjoys taking pictures. He also likes sports, especially skateboarding and surfing. He is the tallest member of Rammstein. He stands at 6 feet 7 inches (2 meters) tall.
Oliver likes to keep his life private. He rarely gives interviews. People say he is the best with computers in Rammstein. In 2022, Oliver sold two of his special Sandberg basses. This was part of a music auction called Gear For Hope. The money raised went to help organizations in Ukraine.
How Oliver Riedel Plays Bass
Oliver Riedel mostly plays the bass guitar with his fingers. But when Rammstein plays live concerts, he often uses a guitar pick for most songs.
Playing Techniques
For some softer songs, Oliver uses a special plucking style. It is like how a banjo is played. He uses his right hand to play chords one note at a time. An example is in the song "Seemann".
He also plays the acoustic guitar for some songs during live shows. These include the start of "Tier" and "Frühling in Paris."

Here is some of the equipment Oliver Riedel uses:
- Sandberg California PM
