Paul's Early Life

Paul Landers was born in East Berlin, which was then part of East Germany. His parents, Anton and Erika Hiersche, met while studying in Halle (Saale). They had to leave their homes after the Second World War. As a child, Paul lived for a short time in Moscow and can speak some Russian.

Paul's Music Career

Starting with Feeling B

In 1983, when Paul was 18, he joined an East German punk band called Feeling B. The band was started by singer Aljoscha Rompe and drummer Alexander Kriening. Later, Christian "Flake" Lorenz, who was 16, joined the band. He played the organ to create bass sounds. Feeling B had different drummers over time, including Christoph Schneider, who would later join Rammstein. Paul also played in other bands like Die Firma.

Meeting Future Bandmates

In the late 1980s, Paul Landers met Till Lindemann and Richard Kruspe. They met during a documentary about youth music in East Germany. Paul later played guitar in a band called First Arsch with Lindemann and Kruspe. In 1992, First Arsch released their only album, Saddle Up.

Forming Rammstein

In 1993, Till Lindemann, Richard Kruspe, Christoph Schneider, and bassist Oliver Riedel formed a new band. They won a music contest in Berlin in 1994. This win helped them record a professional music demo. Soon after, Paul Landers and Flake Lorenz joined the band. That's when they changed their name to Rammstein.

Paul's Personal Life

Paul Landers married his first wife, Nikki Landers, in 1984 when he was 20 years old. He decided to take her last name, Landers. He also switched his first and middle names, so his full name became Paul Landers. Paul has two children, a son and a daughter.
