Early Life and Moving to the U.S.
Omar Mohamed was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. He lived there until he was six years old. His family then moved to Cairo, Egypt. In 2005, when Omar was nine, his family moved again to the United States. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio.
Football Career Journey
Starting in Youth Football
Omar Mohamed began playing organized soccer when he was 12. He joined a local youth club in Columbus called FC Blast. When he was 16, he started playing for the academy of Columbus Crew. An academy is a special training program for young players who show great promise. He even trained with the main Columbus Crew team. He played four games for their reserve team, which is like a backup team, and scored two goals. In 2015, he also played college soccer for one year at Jackson College.
Playing as a Professional
Omar Mohamed became a professional player in 2016. He signed with a new team called FC Cincinnati, which was part of the United Soccer League.
- FC Cincinnati (2016): He played 17 games for FC Cincinnati.
- Portland Timbers 2 (2017): The next year, he joined Portland Timbers 2. He played 27 games and scored one goal for them.
