Omro is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located along the Fox River. About 3,517 people lived there in 2010. Omro is about 10 miles west of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

History of Omro: A Journey Through Time
Early Days and Naming Omro
The area where Omro is today was once land of the Winnebago Indian tribe. French explorers first visited in 1639. Omro was a good place to settle because it had natural ways to travel and lots of water for factories. The first modern settlers arrived in 1847.
There are different stories about how Omro got its name. One popular idea is that it was named after Charles Amereau. He was a French trader and blacksmith who started a fur trading post there.
Omro's Growth and Industries
By 1880, Omro was an important stop on the railroad line. It had a population of over 2,000 people. The city was home to the county fairgrounds and many businesses. These included several mills, a glass factory, and places that made carriages and machines.
Over time, most of these factories moved to nearby Oshkosh or closed down.
Revitalization and Honoring the Past
In 1986, Omro started a plan to make the city better. Since then, it has grown. Several projects help remember Omro's history. These include a historical walking tour and the Scott Park pavilion project. A special historic downtown area has also been created.
