The Oncenter is a big group of three buildings in Downtown Syracuse, New York, USA. It's a place where people can have meetings, watch sports, and enjoy shows. The complex includes a convention center, a sports arena, and theaters.
Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center
The Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center opened in 1992. It has a huge space, about 99,000 square feet (9,200 square meters), that can be rented for events. There's also a large parking garage nearby for 1,000 cars. The center is named after Nicholas J. Pirro. He was the leader of Onondaga County for 20 years. A county executive is like the main manager for a county, helping to run local government services.
Upstate Medical University Arena
The Upstate Medical University Arena is part of the Onondaga County War Memorial. It's a large arena with 6,230 seats. Many different teams have played here over the years. It was once home to the Syracuse Nationals, a former NBA basketball team. It has also hosted minor-league teams for hockey, football, and lacrosse. Since 1994, it has been the home of the Syracuse Crunch, a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League.
John H. Mulroy Civic Center Theaters
The John H. Mulroy Civic Center Theaters are also part of The Oncenter. These theaters are where the Syracuse Opera Company performs. The biggest theater is the Crouse-Hinds Theater. It has one of the largest stages in Upstate New York and can seat 2,117 people on three levels. There are two other theaters as well: the Carrier Theater, which seats 463 people, and the Bevard Studio, which seats 162 people.
